About the Project - 2024

BEAM’s "Dear Black Folks" initiative is an art and affirmation campaign designed to disrupt public space. For the second year these loving messages challenge stigmatizing narratives and affirm Black people's wellbeing by reminding them #YouBelongHere.

Project Goal: Deliver positive affirmations to Black people across the country through public billboards and then document the BEAM team and the public’s reactions to those affirmations.

Role: Creative Project Manager, Media Buyer, Videographer - I led a creative team of a graphic designer, photographers, videographers and editors to create multiple assets - ie billboards, social media videos, photos, posters and reports, etc. I also shot all of the NYC video footage and I negotiated with the media company to target Black neighborhoods across the country.

About the Project - 2023

BEAM’s “Dear Black Folks” affirmation series was designed to disrupt public space by providing messages of radical love for Black people. Each affirmation speaks to some of the unique challenges that different Black communities face, and provides reframing dialogue that serves to combat the narratives of self hate rooted in patriarchy, sexism, transphobia, and homophobia. These designs also have QR codes that link to a directory of mental health services, events, tools, and resources to support folks on their healing journeys.
